Going by the wideness of the smiles, the spirit displayed in the tug o' war and the pounds of Chef Sean Rutherford's BBQ pork that were consumed, the McIntyre Group company picnic last Sunday afternoon was a mighty fine event.
About 100 staff and their family members turned out for McIntyre's annual family event, which this year was held beneath an early autumn sky in Cambridge's Riverside Park.
"In the past five or so years, we've taken the families to Canada's Wonderland, in Toronto, where the picnic was one part of a much larger event," said McIntyre's president, Dean McIntyre. "Now, with many more younger kids in the staff families, I'm glad we went back to the full picnic. We heard many positive comments about getting to hang out and giving the kids more play time together."
And play they did! In addition to tug o' war and other traditional picnic games, activities included face painting, an arts and entertainment clown, electronic games, balloon art and softball.
The picnic fare featured slow-roasted BBQ pork sandwiches prepared by Sean Rutherford, former chef of The Lancaster Smokehouse, with sides of corn bread, mac and cheese and salads, and hamburgers and hot dogs also available. For dessert, there was a cake sporting the McIntyre Double Check -- there was no shortage of cake-qualified quality assurance volunteers! -- and specially decorated cupcakes, all made by Jennifer Andrade of 50 Cakes.
"McIntyre Group's clients benefit from very high service levels because our staff members work hard and maintain high standards," Dean said. "Our family event every September is one way for me and the rest of the management team to say Thank You to the staff and to show our appreciation to their spouses and children."
